Laparoscopic Surgery – The Keyhole Magic
- Traditional surgery involved extensive incisions, stitches, and hospitalization, followed by weeks or months of rest and recovery.
- Many operations that previously required large incisions in patient’s tummy women’s stomachs can now be performed through just few two or three small incisions (0.5-1 cm) thanks to the development of “Keyhole” or “buttonhole” surgery (Laparoscopy).
- Gallstones are tiny stones that form in diseased dysfunctional gallbladder. When they cause trouble or become very large, gallbladder removal surgery needs to be performed. Appendix is a small tiny slender organ in right lower part of tummy. It is a vestigial organ with no significant function in our body. When it becomes diseased it’s a surgical emergency and appendectomy (appendix removal surgery) has to be done. Both these surgeries are today most commonly done by laparoscopic surgeries. We have gone a step further and now routinely perform these surgeries by single skin incision at navel (Single incision laparoscopic surgery). Apart from obvious cosmetic benefits involved, the safety and recovery are not compromised.
